Thanks Chelan - Letter to Lake Chelan Mirror, July 23, 2008
I would like to comment on the experience I had in downtown Chelan this week. I normally pass right through town or stop at a store , but this day I had some time to kill and walked around. I was amazed when I would approach an intersection and stand at the curb. The next car would stop so I could cross. This happened several times. Once I didn't really intend to cross, but the driver was so courteous I crossed just to show my appreciation. Chelan seems awfully big in the summer, but the locals still have small town manners. Thank You.

Chelan reaches top Main Street Category - 7/21/08, Christine Pratt, Wenatchee World staff
Chelan has reached the state's top level of cities doing the most to increase the vitality of their downtown districts. Cities that reach the top level work to draw people and businesses to their downtown areas through design features, historical focus and special events, the state Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development said in a news release.
Other top-level Eastern Washington cities are Wenatchee, Ellensburg, Kennewick and Walla Walla. Top-level cities receive extra training from state experts, the news release said. The state's main-street ranking system is affiliated with the national Great American Main Street Award, which Wenatchee won in 2003.
